CFR Foundation announces 2009-2010 SNECRI Awards

The Board of Directors of the CFR Foundation has announced five new awards under its Southern New England Collaborative Research Initiative.

Southern New England Collaborative Research Initiative (SNECRI)

Existing Awards – The Commercial Fisheries Research Foundation is currently supporting six collaborative research projects aimed at providing information for restoring and maintaining the sustainability of commercially important fisheries in southern New England. The awards are a result of a competitive Request for Proposals process that was administered by the RI Sea Grant Program on behalf of the CFR Foundation during the fall of 2008. Read More...

2009 Request for Proposals process – The Commercial Fisheries Research Foundation, as part of its “Strategic Plan for Collaborative Fisheries Research in Southern New England” (NOAA Award Number NA09NMF47204414), issued a RFP under its SNECRI program on September 2, 1009. This RFP encompasses approximately $1.6 million of available funding for awards. View the RFP and the research priority areas.

2009 Awards – The Commercial Fisheries Research Foundation is currently in the process of finalizing decisions on awards to be issued under its SNECRI 2009 Request For Proposals process. Decisions are expected to be made public by the end of March 2010 once Project Teams offered funding have established final work agreements and budgets with the CFR Foundation.

A program to support teams of researchers and fishing industry members interested in working together to test alternative fishing gear and fishing strategies to reduce bycatch of winter flounder (Pseudopleuronectes americanus) in the southern New England stock area.

The Commercial Fisheries Research Foundation (CFRF) is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting research that assists in the achievement of sustainable fisheries through the generation of better information and effective technologies for the benefit of individuals and businesses dependent on commercial fishing, consumers of seafood, and the public good.

The Research Foundation was founded in 2003 by a group of fishermen in order to establish an alternative process for conducting collaborative research in Southern New England.
